In 1928 the fascist government imposed the annexation of Germignaga to the municipality of Luino, but this decision was never accepted by the
inhabitants of Germignaga; in fact at the end of world war II a group of citizens organised a petition submitted to the home affairs to request
the return to the administrative autonomy, which was granted at the end of 1947.
In the last fifty years there has been, unfortunatily systems, created in the second half of nineteenth century, with resulting loss of employment; recently the works an the lake promenade have been trying change the identity of Germignaga, this improving the tourist identity.
