Mouth of Tresa river

Mouth of Tresawith its sand island, the beach,
the trees is one of the best sites in Varese province for birdwatching. In migration period (Spring and Autumn)
a lot of species use this area to have rest and eat before starting for the long trip. Most easily observable species
are grey heron,cormorant, great crested grebe, least grebe, goosander.
The last is a very particular bird,
typically living in Northern Europe. It catches fishes thank to its long tapered beak, during its immersions;
the male is white with dark green head and two darkstripes on its back, whereas the female is silver with brown head.
Also seagulls are an important presence, there exists nine species, some of them are regionally rare like Ichthyaetusmelanoce-phalus
and kittiwake. As concerns mud-dwelling, birds looking for food in the mud, more than twenty species are present and during the migrations
all if them can be seen.
The most common one in Germignaga is the little ringed plover, laying eggs right in the island of Tresa.
