Birdwatching

The bike path

Along the bike path that runs from GermignagatoMesenzana, you go along theMargorabbia river, running through fields, small woods and wetlands.
Such a mosaic of environments is highly favorablefor birds to rest and nidificate. If you take a look at the river, you can see a blue and orange sliverthat touches the surface of the water emitting a loud and sharpwhistle: it’s the Kingfisher. On this river, you can also surprise the Grey Heron, standing still and scanning the water waiting to catch a fish.
In the fields, especially duringthe spring, many passerines stop for a rest during their migration: Wheatears, Pipits, Whinchats, Stonechats and Western Yellow Wagtails are typical species of wide open environments and here are easily observable with binoculars. From mid-March to August it is not difficult, with a bit of patience, to see the big, dark silhouette of theBlack Kite, a bird of prey that winters in Africa and reaches our latitudes to breed.
